A Study on The Effect of Tourist Guide Candidates Attitudes Towards Crises on Career Stresses

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the effect of tourist guide candidates' attitudes towards crises on their career stress. A questionnaire was administered to 240 tourism guide students studying at Afyon Kocatepe University, Faculty of Tourism, which constitutes the sample of the study. Frequency and percentage distribution, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, correlation and regression analyses were used to analyze the data obtained in the study. As a result of the research, it was determined that the attitudes of undergraduate tourist guide students towards crises were at a high level, while career stress was at a medium level. In addition, weak positive significant relationships were found between attitude towards crises and career stress and career stress dimensions of career uncertainty and lack of information, external conflict and pressure to find a job. Moreover, it was determined that attitude towards crises has significant effects on career stress and career stress dimensions of career uncertainty and lack of information, external conflict and pressure to find a job. In this direction, this study contributes to the literature on the effects of tourist guide candidates' attitudes towards crises on career stress, and can be a guide in developing crisis management processes in the tourist guiding profession and increasing the professional resilience of guides.
